The Beast in the Bedchamber Cover Reveal

Today, I'm very happy to announce the release date of my upcoming self-published anthology, The Beast in the Bedchamber.  This anthology has been a long time in the making, and I'm excited to share it with you.  But first, let's get the important part out of the way - this gorgeous cover:

The Beast in the Bedchamber - coming out on Amazon on April 15th

The idea for Beast came in 2010 when I was re-reading Angela Carter's classic The Bloody Chamber.  I was, at the time, in a bit of a slump, and I thought it might be fun to write a few fairy tale revisions, purely as an academic exercise.  The first two stories -- what would go on to be "Night Beauty" and "Beware the Wolves" -- were written that year.

I didn't write any more stories for a long time after that, deciding instead to focus on novels.  But the stories I'd written lingered at the back of my mind, and I thought that I'd really to complete a collection of them.  So, in late 2012, I sat down and started writing more stories.

The final collection includes six original short stories and one poem.  I talk about the poem at some length here, where I discuss how just how challenging poetry can be.

Of course, I can't very well do a cover reveal without mentioning my awesome cover artist,  Jillian Lambert.  We've known each other for ages, having met on DeviantArt nearly a decade ago, and she is the first and only artist who came to mind for the project.  Her enthusiasm kept me on track and encouraged me to finish.

In the upcoming week between now and the book's official release, I'll be blogging a bit about each story and give you a taste of what you can expect.  I'll also be running a raffle all week long!  The winner receives a $10 gift card to Amazon, to spend on whatever they'd like.  For real.  You can even spend it on somebody else's book and I won't even mind.

    1. Dude, do you know how completely out of it I am? I accepted your Goodreads friend request I-don't-know-how long ago, and I JUST NOW put two-and-two together. When did you get the new blog, and why have I not been following it?! Correcting that travesty now.

    1. When I first saw this post, it was wedged between spam that I had to remove (I'm getting eaten alive by spam) and before I saw your name I thought, "Wow, that's a new type of spam I've never seen before...". But then I realized, no, it's just the sound of hyperventilated excitement :)

  6. Leaving a comment for the raffle, and taking this time to say-- again-- that I'm super eager to someday get to read Beast in the Bedchamber. Last night I read "Angelfish" and "Werehouse", and I've gotta say you've got such a fluid, charming (and flexible!) style. So now I can't wait to sink my teeth into this collection... I know I'll like it!
